Carpet Recycling UK recently attended the 2023 Harrogate Flooring show hosting a stand in the main hall. The event is the largest flooring show in the UK and many of the leading manufacturers, suppliers, distributors and designers were in attendance.
The CRUK stand prominently displayed member case studies to promote and celebrate the efforts taken by the members to minimise flooring waste going to landfill; maximising re-use wherever possible and innovating manufacturing to prevent future waste.
This year saw an upturn in raw material suppliers who represent the yarn and backing suppliers calling by for advice on how to increase recyclability and re-use in the sector and how CRUK can support them in achieving this.
There was also a lot of interest this year from overseas delegates seeking to understand how carpet and textile flooring waste in the UK is managed. Many of these delegates emphasised how keen they were to enter the British market themselves through product supply and waste disposal in the future.
This year’s event also saw a lot of manufacturers showcasing innovative new flooring designs catering to the increased demand for environmentally friendly products. This is a welcome development and hopefully will be an ongoing trend.
The Harrogate Flooring Show also introduced a new “Sustainability” award for exhibitors who are actively committed to sustainable practices. The award this year was presented to Ulster Carpets for the steps they’ve introduced to reduce their carbon footprint and minimise waste.
Support from CRUK’s core funders comes from Balsan, Betap, Brintons Carpets, Condor Group, Cormar Carpets, ege Carpets, Furlong Flooring, Gradus, Headlam Group, IVC Commercial, Likewise Floors, Milliken, Modulyss, Rawson Carpet Solutions, Shaw, Tarkett and Victoria Group.
