Back Stamping of flooring products – can you help?

There is currently no agreed industry format or process for marking or labelling flooring products. We are working with members and the wider industry to gather data in our survey, and improve our understanding of current approaches to back stamping across the UK.

This work will help the industry prepare for the future requirement to hold Digital Product Passports (DPPs) under the Construction Products Regulation (CPR). It may also support the development of a simple back stamp standard that could be introduced sooner, helping with the identification, reuse and recycling of flooring products being manufactured and installed today.

If this is relevant to your organisation, please complete our short survey by 31 March 2026 using the link below.

Feel free to share the survey with colleagues and partners to help us gather as much insight as possible. All responses will be treated in confidence.

Although we represent the flooring industry in the UK, many manufacturers also operate in the EU and the USA. Collaboration across markets is therefore important. We have already spoken with the European Carpet and Rug Association (ECRA) about developments in Europe for textile flooring, and recently engaged with the Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE) in the USA, where legislation requiring back stamping is expected soon.

UK Sustainable Flooring Alliance is the only membership association dedicated to helping the UK textile and resilient flooring sector become more sustainable.
